Ivy House School Nursery

Ivy House Nursery aims to deliver a high-quality care by providing extensive and varied facilities to meet the needs of children aged from 2 years to 4. The Nursery is located at the front of Ivy House and benefits from its own entrance and excellent outdoor facilities.

At Ivy House Nursery we believe that children reach their true potential when they feel safe, secure and valued as part of the community. The children learn in an environment which is deeply focused on nurturing the individual; where they will enjoy learning and develop a passion for knowledge. Families seeking a nurturing and kind learning environment founded upon the values of both the boys’ and girls’ schools, which is academically enriching at the same time, have been delighted with the experience to date.

We are a school-based Nursery where children and families are fully integrated into the life of our prep school community from the moment they start. All children will participate in assemblies and activities celebrating all that is special about our school. The Nursery appeals to families looking for a seamless journey all the way from Nursery to Year 6. The Nursery will draw on the expertise of professional, highly-qualified and experienced teachers.

The curriculum is informed by the EYFS (Early Years) programme and is designed to encourage curiosity, interaction, independence and most importantly, a love of learning.

The Nursery programme aims to help prepare children for reception. Teachers ensure children develop key skills as well as knowledge and an understanding of the world around them, with regular ‘learning in nature’ lessons at Golders Hill Park.

Children will also be stronger communicators and self-assured as learners owing to the carefully planned timetable they follow. Drama, music, French, Mandarin, sport, and dance have been interwoven into the schedule allowing pupils to benefit from the rich specialist curriculum on offer across the school.

The Nursery children enjoy reflection, singing and celebration assemblies, feel inspired by ‘Whacky Wednesdays’ science focus, participate in all major school events, such as Wellbeing Week, Science Week, Book Week, Harvest Food Appeal, STEAM week, remembrance service, the Christmas show, end of term disco, and pancake day celebrations.

The Nursery children have enjoyed very colourful and creative autumn and spring terms so far, finding treasure buried in the sandpit at Golders Hill Park, travelling to space in their own bespoke spaceship, welcoming their teddy bears to school on ‘Hug a Bear Day’, discovering the fossilised remains of a dinosaur in the nursery sandpit, being taught arts and crafts by girls in Year and 6, making bread and butter and bird feeders to coincide with RSPB Birdwatching Week and so much more.

We look forward to welcoming families for personalised tours with the Headteacher, Deputy Head and Nursery team.
