Maths Week 2018

7th June 18

Maths Week 2018

From the 14th to 18th May, the children and staff participated in Maths Week 2018. The week focused on taking a cross curricular approach to mathematics. Teachers carefully planned creative lessons with the aim of incorporating mathematics into other subject areas. Taking a cross curricular approach brought mathematics to life and enabled the girls to realise that mathematics is not confined to the maths lesson and in linking with other subjects, can be even more enjoyable! It also gave the girls an opportunity to gain a wider understanding of context and relevance of other subject areas, for example, history, geography and art.

Our problem solving afternoon enabled us to further highlight the importance of problem solving and reasoning, whilst having fun! The girls tested their ideas, made conjectures and adjusted their thinking in light of what they learnt from being ‘stuck’, which created learning opportunities. Through discussion with peers, persevering to find an alternative solution to the problem and taking risks in their learning, there were jubilant moments when the girls solved the problem!

A particular highlight of Maths Week was our Maths themed dress up day, which concluded the week. The girls bounded into school in a variety of mathematically inspired costumes, eager to share their incredibly creative outfits!
